Perfect Ways To Create A Blog In 2018
If you are reading this article it means that you have finally decided to create your own blog.
But apart from having the desire to make it on your own and probably earn some money from it, what do you know about starting a blog?
When I decided to create my blog, I too was clueless about how to go about it. It took me a long time to finally decide that it’s what I wanted.
Maybe the intervention of a longtime friend may have had something to do with my drive to start my short story blog but whatever the case, I finally got around all it takes to start a blog.
Along the way, I have learned a lot of lessons and through that, I have been able to improve.
Most people will create a blog because they heard it is a quick way to make money but you will be a fool to start a blog just because of that.
I am yet to start earning from my own but that’s something that is in the future. So, what does it take to start a successful blog in 2018?
How To Create A Blog
1. Get domain and hosting
Most bloggers tend to go straight to hosting accounts and register a domain there.
If you don’t have the money for it, you can start off with a free word press hosted blog; generate the much-needed traffic before embarking on a paid one.
An example of a free word press hosted blog is like mine with www.lillyannegathoni.wordpress.com as a domain.
If you have the resources you can use sites like Hostgator, SiteGround, Bluehost and the likes. Register your domain and hosting at a fee.
Most of them have a ‘one-click’ install of word press meaning you don’t have to stress about setting up a word press page initially.
3. Choose a user-friendly Theme
After you have registered your domain and hosting, it’s now time to choose your blog theme.
What do you want your blog to communicate? You can choose to purchase one or do with the free ones provided by word press.
Whatever the case though, choose a theme that is user-friendly and by that I mean a theme that is easy to access through desktop, mobile or tablet.
Consider all your users and make their experience great in such a way that they will come back.

3. Modify your blog
Once you have a domain, hosting and a theme, it’s time to modify the theme to a look the way you want.
How do you want your home page to look like? What should be on each and every page and such are things you should consider when modifying your theme.
Email marketing still remains today the biggest source of traffic for most blogs.
Consider signing up for a free Feedburner account to enable visitors to subscribe to your blog via email. You can thank me later for this.
Create a free Google Analytics account also to help you monitor your traffic. This is a very important tool to have if your blog is to succeed.
4. Install plugins
Blogs run on plugins which is something you should consider installing once you have a blog up and running.
You can start with simple plugins like Google Analytics to keep track of your traffic.
Other plugins are Facebook, Whatsapp or Twitter share button plugins.
This is because if you have great content people will always be drawn to clicking the share button and sharing with others.
That’s how you create a successful blog and a great way to increase traffic to your site.
5. Finally, create compelling content
I am assuming that before you even thought about creating a blog, you have an idea of what you want to share with the world.
Is it fashion, food, travel, architecture or simply your very own directory of fictions?
Wherever you do, now that you have everything sorted out, it’s time to create your first content. Make it compelling, catchy and memorable.
Make people want to visit your website again!
You have already invested so much in terms of time and money to let all that go to waste.
And the way to avoid this is by creating content that is both timely and relevant. In short, position yourself as an expert in something.
Starting a blog as you have seen is not rocket science. You don’t have to have a fancy degree in computer science or the likes to create a blog. Just use these simple tips and let the world get to know about you through your writing. Best of luck!
